Roles and responsibilities of the municipal Council

The municipal council represents the municipality and takes administrative decisions on the orientations and priorities of the Municipality. The municipal council is composed of a mayor and six councilors. The administration of the municipality is governed by administrative rules clearly defined in the law. The elected representatives can manage their municipality only in compliance with these rules, unlike the private enterprises which can fix them at their convenience, according to the management methods it deems appropriate.

The Council takes decisions in the form of resolutions during public meetings.

Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct

All elected council members of the Municipality of Brigham are subject to a Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct. The Code is intended to ensure that council members adhere to the major values of the Municipality in terms of ethics, formulate the adoption of ethical rules and determine mechanisms for the application and monitoring of these rules.

On February 4, 2014, the Council of the Municipality of Brigham adopted By-law number 2014-02 establishing a code of ethics and professional conduct for municipal elected officials. The purpose of this by-law is to establish a new code of ethics for elected municipal officials in accordance with the law and to replace the one adopted in 2011.
